The League of Women Voters of Galveston is an all-volunteer membership organization. We have been very engaged and enthusiastic since our chapter has been active.
You can volunteer with us in many different ways and help us meet our mission: Empowering Voters and Defending Democracy! We hope our Volunteer opportunities interest you and encourage you to reach out to us if you have questions.
LWV Galveston is very active with Voter Registration and Education Events. We are active in our Community, registering High School and College Students, assisting eligible voters in completing their Application for Ballot By Mail (ABBM), and participating in local Community Festivals. We recently applied for and won a grant for developing voter registration programs for the currently and formally incarcerated. If you are interested in participating in non-partisan voter registration, contact Kay Lowell, Voter Services and Education Chair, at klowell.lwvgc@gmail.com
VOTE411 is our premier, national, LWV online Voters Guide that helps you learn about candidates and where they stand on key voter issues. Volunteers from LWV Galveston invite input from candidates for many local races in Galveston County. Candidates for each race are given the same questions appropriate to their race so readers can see how the candidates differ on important issues. If you have questions or want to volunteer with our VOTE411 team, please email klowell.lwvgc@gmail.com
LWV Galveston purchases thousands of printed voter guides before elections. League members distribute these voters guides to area libraries, city halls, churches local ISDs, community centers, and other public places. If you would like to be part of the voter guide distribution team, please email Corlie Jackson at lwv.galvestontexas@gmail.com.

LWV Galveston holds candidates forums for selected local municipal elections when invited by specific cities/entities in our area. Hearing from candidates on key issues is a critical step in voting. If you would like to help with planning and/or logistics or to volunteer for such roles as timekeeper, screening committee, usher/runner, etc., please email us at lwv.galvestontexas@gmail.com
League Principles are concepts of government to which all Leagues subscribe. They are the beliefs shared by League members everywhere. Principles are the basis upon which national, state, and local program is adopted. The Principles themselves may be used to take action at any level of government. However, because they are broad statements, such action is usually taken in conjunction with current League positions. Additional information on their use is found in Impact on Issues, the program publication of the League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS).
Observer Corps is the eyes and ears of the League and a function of the League that all members can take part in.
Observers attend local government meetings, take notes, and report back to the League and to the community. League members who participate in Observer Corps learn how the government works and about issues that may become items for local study and action. Consistent League presence at local government meetings also adds to the League’s visibility and credibility.
Observer Corps:
helps ensure that citizens are aware of decisions that impact their lives – how those decisions are made and how citizens can have input on those decisions;
promotes government transparency and accountability; and
helps Local Leagues tie their program planning and advocacy work to timely issues relevant to their community.
