Empower Voters! Become a Galveston County Volunteer Deputy Registrar
What are Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrars?
People who are certified as Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR)
VDRs are certified by a county to register voters in the county where the voter lives.
VDRs can be certified as VDRs in more than one county.
Many VDRs registering voters in Galveston County are deputized in Harris, Brazoria, and Fort Bend Counties. Some may even be deputized in Travis County, as Travis County offers online Zoom classes, which makes it easier for busy people who may not be able to go in person to every county office
Volunteer Deputy Registrars (VDRs) partner with County Voter Registrars, assisting citizens in registering to vote and educating them on the importance of voting. A high level of ethical conduct is required to be a VDR as you protect applicants' right to vote.
How Do I Become a VDR?
Online Classes
To take an online Zoom Training Class, we recommend you go to either the Harris County Tax Assessor and Voter Registrar Site or the Travis County Voter Registration Site and sign up for a class that meets your schedule.
You can then request reciprocity to register voters in other counties, most importantly, Galveston County. You will send to the Galveston County Voter Registration Department the VOT26 Application in English or print and complete the Application in Spanish and submit it to the Voter Registration Department, along with copies of your certificate from Harris or Travis County via fax, email, or deliver to any GCTO Office. The e-mail address is galcotax@co.galveston.tx.us.
In-Person Classes
If you choose In-Person Classes, they are held at 722 Moody Moody Ave, Galveston, TX 77550. Classes are held every 3rd Friday of the month at 10 am. You don't need to pre-register, but we recommend calling or emailing the Galveston County Voter Registration Department and letting them know you are attending. They will have your certificate and packet ready to give you at the end of the class, and you won't have to wait for the information to arrive in the mail.
Upon completion of training, you will receive a VDR handbook, Certificate of Appointment, VDR name badge, identification card, voter applications, registration supplies, and the authority to distribute and receive voter applications within Galveston County. Please refer to the VDR Handbook in English or Spanish for additional information.
